Building the kit
To assemble your kit, it’s best to store items in airtight plastic bags and put your entire disaster supplies kit in one or two easy-to-carry waterproof containers such as plastic bins or a duffel bag.
A basic emergency kit could include the following recommended items
Basic electronics:
Pack an extra phone charger and a portable battery pack in case you have no electricity.
A small hand-cranked or battery-operated AM/FM radio (with extra batteries).
A LED flashlight.
Non-perishable food such as granola bar and canned food for at least three days.
A canned opener or a multipurpose knife.
Infant baby formula & bottle.
Pet food(if you own a pet).
Household chlorine bleach and medicine dropper to disinfect water in case of an emergency. You can use it to treat water by using 16 drops of regular household liquid bleach per gallon of water. Please, avoid scented, color safe or bleaches with added cleaners.
Personal needs:
Get a travel size toiletry as low as $6 from Walmart which includes. toothpaste,toothbrush,shampoo,
Cleansing wipes for the grownups and diaper/baby wipes for the little ones.
Blanket for each person.
Your meds
Pack about three days’ worth of each of your prescriptions.
Oxygen tank, check to see if you can get a portable one. VERY IMPORTANT
Non-prescription medications such as pain relievers, anti-diarrhea medication, antacids or laxatives, diaper rash for your baby.
Prescription glasses.
Paperwork
Use a zip-top waterproof bag for photocopies of important documents. Such as birth certificate, driver’s license, social security, Medicare cards; power of attorney and will, residency card or naturalization certificates, etc…
Cash
Grab enough money for a few days, so you don’t have to beg for change.
Small bills and a roll of quarters.
