When Technologies Meet Convenience, My Life Gets a Bit Easier!

According to the Time Use Institute, the average shoppers spend 41 minutes for a grocery trip. It also varies by the day of the week or time a day because from experience I spend more time at the grocery store on the weekend; especially Sunday. I also vow not to go to the store, mainly Walmart on a Sunday afternoon. So, how is technology changing the way you shop? I personally think that it is a great way to focus your time on other stuff by letting the stores do the shopping for you. It is beneficial because, One: people usually live between 5 to 30 minutes from their local stores. Two: They have to spend between 41 minutes to two hours at the store.  Therefore, Free grocery pick up or delivery is the best thing that could ever happen.

I tried service like Instacart from different local grocery stores and got free delivery for 14 days trial as long my order is over fifty dollars. The service is great but there will be always pros and cons in pretty much everything. As for me, the pro is the flexibility, gas saving and spending minutes on my smartphone to order instead of hours at the store. On the other hand; The store can substitute an item for another, not getting fresh produce etc… FYI , If you are getting delivery, it is best that you are at home or have someone that can receive your groceries.

I also tried  Walmart Free Grocery Pick up which I absolutely love because I can set up my pick up time based on what time I get off from work. Honestly, I hate making a trip to Walmart. There are two functioning registers and the self-checkout line is way too long and the way my schedule set up; I don’t have the time. Therefore, shopping through an app is the absolutely best. They also offer delivery depending on the market where you live.

When I finally gave Walmart Free Grocery Pickup a try, I was quite concerned about the quality of the items compared to an in-store trip. I am from the Caribbean and my plantains, yams, sweet potatoes and yuca need to be in my shopping list and surprisingly the produce and fresh food looked very decent. The potatoes were fresh and the bananas were not overripe.

Now, how do you order for Walmart Free Grocery Pick up? You simply download the Walmart app to your smartphone; then navigate and locate your items. It is very easy to locate an item by typing the name or a specific brand in the search engine. For instance; when I click crackers in the snack category; it will give me a variety of crackers compared to me typing Nekot Sandwich Crackers.

Once done, you proceed to checkout. The fact that there are different brands with the same items; the website will ask if it’s OK to substitute one thing for another in case your item isn’t available . It is totally up to you; especially if it is part of your dietary restriction. In addition, the website will ask you to pick a time that is convenient for you; and it could be the same day or the next.

The moment, you complete your order, you will get an email with the order number, instructions on how to contact Walmart once it’s almost time for pick up. Walmart will send you a second email and an app alert to inform you that your cart is ready. They will also instruct you to check in before arriving at the store and to park at the designated pick up parking spot. I suggest that you check in 30 minutes prior so you don’t have to wait once you get there because every Walmart customer service isn’t the same. After check-in, you will get a call from an associate informing you to call back and give your parking spot number so they can come to load your car.

My overall experience with Walmart Grocery pick is absolutely great. The associates are always nice and they will tell you if they made any changes or if an item is missing. For my first order, they made about two substitutions and they didn’t charge extra even they cost more. On another note, you can add other stuff like paper towel, dish soap or detergent to your cart.

If your daily schedule is upside down and you love being in the kitchen; I highly recommend Walmart Grocery Pick because all you do is drive, park and get your groceries loaded by employees, and leave. You may also get a goody bag with your first order.
