Today we are celebrating the courage of this phenomenal woman. A mom, a wife, a nurse, cancer warrior, and a superhero.
Like many others, Candace was given months to live by her doctors; but she was determined to finish what she started.
From Candace: In summer 2016, I found out that I was pregnant right after I was accepted into the Nurse Practitioner Program;never took the time off because I wanted to push through .
I had a second pregnancy in 2017 and as you all know, life comes with many hurdles. During that pregnancy, I have found out that I had breast cancer. Through it all, I decided to push through.
I was diagnosed in November 2017, I had an emergency C-section in December 2017, followed by a bilateral mastectomy in February 2018. Through it all, I kept pushing.
In September 2018, I found out that the cancer came back. I decided not to quit even though I was given months to live by my doctors. All my professors have told me to take the time off, but I waited too long for this opportunity to go to school…
You see, I got married at an early age, suffered from an abusive marriage and became a single mother of two kids.
My now husband and his family have been very supportive and their support helped me to push through.
In May 2019,I graduated with my masters in adult/gero nurse practitioner.
I’m so glad I never quit. I don’t know what the future holds for me or when my time will be. But, one thing for sure, I didn’t let cancer stop me. I praise God every day for his mercies.
